Tag - You're it! (Yes, I was Tagged!)

Hey, all! Happy Leap day! (Don't think that is really a "holiday" but hey, who cares...) The sweet Rachel tagged me one day last week, and I am finally posting my answers to her questions as well as the "rules," random facts, and my own select bloggers/followers to tag. Thanks SO much for thinking of me, Rachel - I appreciate it. I'll try really hard to come up with eleven questions and random facts unlike last time. As always, I will pick some bloggers to "tag" but any of you are welcome to participate - and in fact, I'd love if you did. Just leave a link if you do as I'd love to read your post...

About the Song:
Released: 2012
Writing Credits: Britt Nicole, Ben Glover and David Garcia
Label: Sparrow Records
Genre: Christian Pop
Debut:

My Thoughts: it was by “accident” that I stumbled across this artist’s works shortly after she appeared on the Christian music circuit, and I’ve followed Britt’s music career after that – and what an impressive one it is turning out to be in her young life. Her 2007 debut, Say It was a combination of bubbly cheeriness and the depth of a young teenage Christian, and I truly enjoyed her songs. This single, the first off of her upcoming third album Gold, is perhaps her best song yet.

I haven’t a clue how historically accurate this series might be but I can see why this British “soap” is such a popular daytime drama among its targeted (likely female) audience, because it is addictive – in all the right ways, mind you.

Having become a fan of another show from this same network (I’ll leave you all to guess which one it is *wink*), I chanced seeing this, knowing next to nothing about it. Basing my opinion solely on a single trailer, I – quite impulsively, rented it.

Changes to Google

So... I just wanted to drop by this evening with a quick, friendly "fyi" for all of you who may read this blog.

From what I am hearing, Google/Blogger will be taking away Google Friend Connect (March first) which means we will all have to find different ways to keep up with our favorite blogs. I am hearing that we'll still be able to follow blogs through GoogleReader, so I have added a button for that under the drop down menu "follow me..." as well as a  link for BlogLovin' and LinkyFollowers.

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Hope you all are having an awesome weekend!

About the Song:
Released: 2012
Writing Credits: Carrie Underwood, Chris DeStefano and Ashley Gorley
Label: 19 Recordings
Genre: Country, Pop
Debut: #1

My Thoughts: although “Good Girl” has a ring of familiarity to it, it does not diminish how awesome this track is – seriously. Each time I listen to it, I like it more. (I’ve probably listened to it half-a-dozen times since its release Thursday!) As early reviews have claimed, Carrie nails this song – yet again. In much the tradition of her prior tracks, I don’t feel like we are being asked to listen to a song that has been sung time and again only with different titles and words (example being “Cowboy Casanova”) but rather another destined-to-become-number-one-single from an artist who is multi-talented.

Midnight in Paris... It has a nice ring, doesn’t it? Alone those mere three words invoke thoughts of strolling down one of the famed city of light’s sidewalks or enjoying a latte on a sidewalk café but put them together to title this movie and we have a very different story. At first, this had the right idea but unfortunately, I don’t think this movie had the right set-up to be truly great.

Since I’ve posted a couple of breezy spy thrillers in the past week or two, I figured why not keep up the trend with another?

Summer blockbusters always have a draw that is unexplainable. Most of them, I don’t ever get around to seeing in theaters and this was one of them. While not the smartest to come out of Hollywood, it was fun and provides more than one laugh along the way. Plus the man behind the camera is a capable director whose movies brought two of Hollywood’s most famous their Oscars.

And the Oscar Goes to...

Each year a show is put on during which everyone who is anyone in Hollywood royalty come together (using that term loosely, mind you) for a night of glamour and jokes – or basically a whole lot of pomp and circumstance where no one is really themselves - or perhaps they... are? Since this is the first year that I’ve had any kind of platform to share a list such as this, I thought I’d give you my picks for movies that might deserve an Academy Award – and after all, who cares what those liberal judges say, the public's is the right say-so… right!? *grin* Most of my picks would never even be considered for Oscars but some should be.

Below I have pulled together five of the “top” Oscar categories and awarded the title or actor that I thought was most worthy from the last year while adding in my own fun categories that would never be thought of for such a prestigious award. Read on below to uncover what movies and television shows I thought were funniest, best-acted or had the ability to tug at the viewer’s heartstrings.

I did try to make up a little video to go with this (just for fun) but unfortunately, the troublesome thing wouldn't load onto Blogger, so that idea went south, nevertheless... Enjoy!

Google Friend Connect... No More?

I have a question for you all.

So... in the blogging scene, I've been reading rumors that starting March first Google may take away Google Friend Connect for bloggers whose blogs are not powered by Google - and even those who are may lose that option which essentially means that we bloggers will lose our (awesome!) followers. A lot of my blog friends are suggesting and using Blog Lovin', and I did open an account there but have as yet to transfer my blog list over there... my question to you all is: do you know anything more about whether or not this will happen?

I don't want to miss out on keeping up with all of the blogs I follow - and, of course, I don't want to lose all of you as followers, so I just thought I'd see what everyone knew about this potential change.

My friend thinks Google is "evil."

I am beginning to agree with her.

Seeing this was, obviously a “better late than never” situation. Many of us movie buffs might remember Mr. and Mrs. Smith as “the” film which cloaked its two major stars in quite a controversy – or at least it did by Hollywood’s ideals. Since seeing two more recent films that mirror this one, this title was re-introduced. So without further ado, I am finally getting around to posting this review.

If a show on network television can take an already good idea and make the most of that concept by improving it, then that suggests there is a lot of talent within that crew. White Collar was already a fabulous series, but in its sophomore year, it only gets better. Show creator Jeff Eastin’s working theory was “redeeming” a criminal (even one who only committed financial crimes) by giving him the FBI as an opponent to be reckoned with and as an ally by forcing him to work within the governmental branch of law, as an alternative to prison. Step out of the perimeters they have set, and trouble immediately will follow.

Last season may have worked really hard to bond every single one of the characters together in what passed as more realistic and endearing relationships between people whose casual attitudes about very important and serious matters are often not without rebuke. This season tears down all of those walls. Countless pieces of Bones (no pun intended!) are stronger but there are certain times when the season could have benefited from more discretion – something this particular show seems a stranger to.

More than anything else, this movie drew in crowds in great part to its top-billed stars – both of which can bring around any number of people faster than you could say this movie’s two-word title. Critics weren’t all that into this script, and to be perfectly honest with you, neither was I. Turns out it’s kind of a necessity (and a saving bonus for the studio) that those two names were plastered across a poster, because the plot, while immensely entertaining certainly isn’t that inventive.

I think all of the people I diligently follow, and those in my blogging “scene” who wanted to have seen this movie. Sill, I felt it was important to post a review on it for any readers here who might not have heard of this wonderful little film. To support the wonderful group of people behind Sherwood Pictures, my family bought a copy of Courageous its first week to DVD. After sitting around for two weeks, finally we got around to watching it. Since most of you probably know how the film unfolds, I will give as brief as possible synopsis, and get right to my thoughts and conclusions of the movie itself so as not to bore you.

Happy "hearts" day, readers. Today I am sharing my review with you all of one of my most favorite romantic comedies. Enjoy.
>>>

Unfortunately, due to the theater I most frequent never showing this (still mad with them – although not enough to stop frequenting their doors *wink*) I wasn’t able to see Killers upon its release. But since its release, it was just one of my most looked-forward too releases and so, it was with anticipation that I popped it into the DVD player only to find myself being the most thoroughly entertained by a movie that I have been in a long while.

There is a popular mainstream “self-help” book with the end goal of helping singles navigate the oh-so-confounding world of dating. Eventually that book inspired a major motion picture. I am willing to admit that I like the movie as romantic comedies go, but it has little to no honesty in its messages. So… in the relationship between boyfriends and girlfriends isn’t the question girls everywhere want answered: what is he thinking? Has that thought ever crossed your mind? In relationships – whether a romantic one or a platonic one, I am sure we wouldn’t be honest with ourselves and others if we were to respond,

 “Nope. Never!”

The follow-up season of Fox’s hit series (based on a book written by an anthropologist) had a few new dynamics working for it. One of which were romantic sparks between its leading couple where season one built a friendship and nothing more. Fortunately for fans that prefer their television to bring cleaner scripts to the table, the first half of this season is tolerably clean – and then the second half rolls around.

This show had me curious for a loooong time. It didn’t appeal to my mother because of its name but something about it kept me reading up on it. It wasn’t until I read one reviewers (you know who you are!) thoughts that I really became intrigued by it. Recently I was in the video store and randomly I decided I was going to rent just the first disc – after all, what was the harm in that? Here are my thoughts on this FOX series.

I cannot properly explain my attachment to this film. It is certainly not for an advancement in moral lessons or because it’s a charming little journey story through English countryside. What The Holiday does lack, it makes up for by its warm, heartfelt and “real” story-telling abilities. A very “adult” movie with a premise that didn’t have to be, the movie tells one story that barely earned its “parental guidance” rating, and one that definitely needed it.

It’s no secret. I think Katherine Heigl is one of the brightest stars on-screen today. Each of her movies are supremely entertaining (or those I have seen are) and she has a persona on-screen not unlike Amy Adams – whatever the role, she just exudes charm. Excoriated for her recurring roles in romantic-comedies by critics, Heigl has nevertheless continued to star in effervescent movies, and as long as the movie brings in moviegoers and rakes in the cash, who cares what those critics say? Initially this movie was one I planned on just renting but when it came right down to it and my mom also expressing an interest in seeing this one, it seemed inevitable that we’d head out to the big screen to see One for the Money.

Seeing this movie was something of a leap for me. It caught my eye because of its leading lady who is one of my favorite movie stars but after that, I did think it sounded like it had potential. When I read a Christian review on it in World Magazine, I was officially intrigued by its premise. It explores the paralyzing hold fear can have over us – or more accurately how very brief our life here on earth really is. What it lacks in moral quality, it makes up for in creativity.

We all likely saw the television spots for this during this past summer, and I know back when it was in theaters, I even read a review or two. Now on DVD, never in a million years did I imagine myself watching this unusual movie but that is exactly what I found myself doing on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Sara Evan's Love Lifted Me

Most of you all probably know the name Sara Evan's as a award-winning country singer. What some of you might not know is, she also wrote a series of Christian novels with co-author Rachel Hauck. Here, in another "book cover" post are not one but two alternate designs that Sara posted to her home page asking fans to vote on which they liked better:

My Apologies...

I just wanted to drop by with a quick post to apologize for how "messy" my blog looks for those of you that use Internet Explorer as your browser. I had swapped out this layout for a new one and it messed things up even worse, so I believe that is when it happened. I don't know if it will be fixed today, but I will be working on it ASAP. (It looks just fine if you use Google Chrome.)

Again, I do apologize.

Friday, February 3, 2012

I know it has been kind of "crazy" around here lately. First I had a messy blog while I was attempting to code a new template and then, I've realized that I've not shared many reviews with you all this past week. Unfortunately, as for the first distraction, I am still working with it and getting used to this layout so it may still look kind of messy at times but I can promise you that I'll have a couple of all-new reviews next week! Until then, here is one of my rambling "opinion" blog posts.

As humans, don't we all look at the situations that we are not living in and we form opinions based on only what we do “know”? Such opinions can be fashioned through varying forms. Sometimes it might be through a second-party without any ill intent and sometimes it is nothing but vicious gossip, but whatever the case, it is always important that we keep an open mind – or perhaps more correctly, that we always strive to know the truth. This isn’t coming from some “politically correct” mentality or the thought that we should all just "get along" and desire world peace (at the cost of freedom) but instead, it is coming from a place where I’ve found myself to be at different stages of my life. Despite human nature and our insecurities, we shouldn't "worry" about other's thought process if we've maintained the right attitude as it might relate to us or assume that they are thinking the worst… instead more importance should be put on my flaws because at the end of the day, only God and His child know what is in hearts.

Today, I am thrilled to bring all my readers a book review of The Hunger Games at Scribbles, Scripts and Such. Brought to you by Danielle from Book or Big Screen? (Welcome back, Danielle!) I asked her if she'd be willing to guest post here again by writing something on the book that has everyone in a flurry of excitement for the March 2012 release of the big-screen movie starring newcomer Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth - she graciously agreed. Thank you so much, Danielle - I enjoyed reading your wonderful review, and I hope all  of you will too. Find out what Danielle thought of this, the "new 'Twilight'" below.

Femnista: What the Dickens!

It is a brand-new year and with that comes an all-new issue of Femnista! Not only is the issue brimming with new material but editor Charity Bishop has also re-designed the whole e-zine adopting a chic, modern look that should not be missed! ('Cause it's cool!)

In honor of Charles Dickens 200th anniversary, we have filled this issue with some of his most-popular looks as well as a look at the man behind the novels and the legacy he left behind. If you liked the "Literary Men" issue from this past summer, then you'll love this winter 2012 issue! So, be sure to check it out. Scroll down until you find the link on the left side bar or click the link below to download and print out your own copy. We'd love your feedback, so let us know how we did. Also, if you have a Tumblr account, head over to Tumblr and reblog your favorites.

Don't forget to watch for our next issue coming this spring which will feature the Edwardian Era - and what a lovely era is was! In that issue we'll visit the stately Downton Abbey, find out more about the "flower girl" Eliza Doolittle and re-visit the tragedy that is Titanic. It will be a wonderful issue that will also commemorate the sinking of Titanic.
