Let's Party, It's Giveaway Time!

The past three years, I've kind of formed an unintentional tradition. We offer a copy of Downton Abbey in coloration with its US airing on Masterpiece Theatre, which leads me to today's topic - the "annual" British DVD giveaway is in full swing! It's later than usual but hey, better late than never, right... and the beginning of the new year seems the perfect time to have a little party around here.

Aside from winning another great season of Downton Abbey, you can also choose from a variety of British productions. Here's a listing of some one winner could win:
  • Downton Abbey, Series Four (or any series)
  • The Paradise, Series One
  • Sherlock (any series)
  • Mr. Selfridge, Series One
  • Call the Midwife (any series)
  • Miss Fisher, Series One
  • The Bletchley Circle
Also, one secondary winner will get a $25.00 Amazon gift card.

Read on below for all the product details and rules of this giveaway!

The giveaways is open to U.S and Canadian readers. Also, please I will just ask that anyone who leaves a comment under "anonymous," please leave the same name you enter into the widget in your comment - it's not nearly as easy to try and match comments when there is no name and in fairness to everyone else, I want to be able to be sure everyone who used the Rafflecopter correctly has a fair chance at winning against those who abuse it - believe it or not, there have been a couple people that I could not verify. So please, I don't mean to overwhelm, but just keep this in mind when entering future giveaways. I'd sure appreciate it!

  1. Thanks for the awesome giveaway, Rissi! :)

My expectations for the new season (after only seeing the first episode so far, of course) are that it's going cause me a lot of the usual emotions: feeling sorry for some people and being furious at others and rooting for certain romantic entanglements. :) Also, Downton Abbey is good at making me really dislike a character at the beginning of the episode but then completely forgiving them again by the end of the episode.

    1. Thanks for participating, Kristin. :)

I like your strategy for Downton; I can be the same way. All TV characters tend to make me mad at some point however by the end, I've usually forgiven them. It's more fun that way, right!? ;) Hope you continue to enjoy season four!

  3. I can already tell this season will be emotional and dramatic. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be Downton Abbey, would it?

  4. I thoroughly enjoyed the Downton premiere...and even though I know some of what's coming, I have hope that the season will resolve everything satisfactorily. (Also...since I already pre-ordered Downton, is it wrong that I'm crossing my fingers and hoping to win the gift card? LOL) ;-)

    1. I need to watch the Christmas special yet, Ruth however I ended up liking the "end" of this season. I did read someone there was another cast member leaving for S5, however I don't know who! Color me panicked. ;)

Glad you so enjoyed the premiere - me, too!

LOL, nope, that's not wrong at all! Who doesn't like to pick something from Amazon's awesome-ness!? ;)

  5. Haven't seen it (except for about 35 minutes of the season opening...didn't have time to finish) but I sure am excited! I like to read spoilers, so I know it ends on a higher note than S3 - which is good. I like things to end happy. :) Can't wait to watch this all!
Awesome giveaway, Rissi. Seriously. You're the best. :)

    1. Right there with you, Charity. Happy endings ARE THE BEST. We live life - which can be hard - so who needs to have sobering endings in entertainment, right!? :) Glad you are excited and keep me up to date on Twitter, girl.

      Thanks for participating! :)

  6. I've only seen the first season of Downton Abbey, but am already hooked and can't wait to see the second and third season to catch up to watch the fourth season! Mary is my favorite and I love the history and the lovely setting! Plus they have British accents, so I mean, come on, who wouldn't like Downton???? Thanks so much for the lovely giveaway, dear!

    Blessings,
    Bethany

    1. Yay! I'm glad you're getting excited for Downton, Bethany. I agree, it is a lovely series - you've summed it up perfectly. With the accents and costumes and settings... oh, my! I just love it all. Mary is one of my favorites, too; some see her as "cold" however she's not what everyone perceives her to be.

      Thanks for participating.

  7. I've only seen the season premiere of Season 4, but I've seen some extra information online (spoilers). Although it is addictive (it is Downton Abbey after all), I was somewhat disappointed in the premiere. It just isn't quite as good as, well, Season 1 especially. Mary's angst/grief, while perhaps accurately acted, is somewhat overkill, but that's typical Mary, I guess. Branson does seem happier so far and not so political, so that's positive. :) Thomas just needs to go. He is too influential. Why does Cora listen to him? O'Brien needs to come back. :) Even though she was not a very good sort of person, her scheming was a major player in the storyline. Edith's future looks grim.

    1. I get what you're saying about Mary, however I think her mood is appropriate. Mary was always perceived as such a "cold" person and Matthew brought the best out in her - he made her the best version of herself and losing him was awful for her - he was the one who knew her best, who understood her. Branson has matured which is wonderful; Thomas continues to be annoying (I SO agree, the dude needs to pack his bags); Cora needs to smart up though I like her (she listened to O'Brien as well) and yes, you guessed right, Edith's future does look grim.

Season one was the best written - most clever, however I really liked this series. Hope you end up enjoying it more once it progresses, Kerry. :)

  8. Thanks for this incredible giveaway! I never really got into Downton Abbey, although I watched the entire first season. I thought about picking it back up last year, but then they killed both of my favorite characters, so...yeah. ;(

    1. Bummer! That is a good reason not to pick it back up, Hayden. I think if there is more about the series you don't like, then it's not worth watching.

      Thanks for commenting! :)

  10. Wow, thanks for hosting such a wonderful giveaway!

Dunno if it was to you or to Charity I said that I was unsure whether I was going to continue the show but my parents like this show so I pre-ordered s4 for them. Might have spoiled myself a wee bit for this series but I'm expecting some wonderful scenes/acting from Michelle Dockery; much as I hate what happened to Matthew at the Christmas special, it'll provide some material for Mary. Otherwise, while this would never happen (the show would just end if it did), I just want happiness for everyone in Downton, lol. Oh, and for Violet to continue having some awesome one-liners =D

    1. Thanks for commenting, Lianne! :)

I think it must have been Charity... not sure I remember chatting up Downton with you. Either way, I don't mind re-hashing the convo. ;) It is awful that Matthew died, however writer's handle it beautifully in my opinion. I hope if you watch it with your parents, you enjoy it somewhat, Lianne (my mom loved this season as much as I). Michelle gives a stellar performance and in the end, I liked how it ended - minus the Christmas special since that's on its way in the mail. When the show ends (which may be after S5), I want the ending to be happy. Fellowes would be cruel not to give us that considering all we've gone through.

Violet ALWAYS has wonderful one-liners. Love that about her character. ;)

  13. Confession time: I've never watched Downton Abbey. I have, though, DVR'd the first episode of S4, and I plan to watch it soon. I'm excited to watch it after all the great things I've heard about it from by blogger friends :) I think I will enjoy it.
(And by the way, forever I thought it was "downTOWN Abbey. hehe)

I think you'll enjoy it too - especially if you like British drama.

LOL, I always want to write "downtown" too...! ;)

  14. I haven't seen S4 yet... I've finished with S3, but I haven't watched "Journey to the Highlands" yet.

Somehow I found out about the....I'll call it a "casting change" to keep it spoiler-free for those who might not know yet. Anyway, I found out ahead of time (which always annoys me), and I'm bummed by the upcoming change. I always liked that guy, and I can't help but admit that I thought his wife wasn't good enough for him. :) So, anyway...I'm bummed that he'll be gone, but I think the series will probably be able to move past it O.K.

    Thanks for the giveaway, Rissi!

    1. In my estimation S4 is beautiful, Valerie even in its somber state albeit I will admit, the writing isn't as good as its first season. 'Journey to the Highlands' is also good... save for that jarring ending!

I knew before seeing the episode with the "casting change" too, Valerie and was... SHOCKED. However, I'm glad to have been spoiled since I "live" for TV spoilers. ;) It never ruins the joy or thrill of watching something but I like to be prepared. I'm glad you're optimistic because as I said at the beginning of this comment, I was very pleased with S4. It was better than even I expected and it makes me happy to be getting at least one more season. :)

    1. *GASP* is right. ;) No, really, nothing wrong with not being a Downton groupie. It's gorgeous but not everyone will like the plots and heartbreak. *sigh* Even after everything I still adore it. Guess, it's just got me under it's spell. Or something like that.

  17. My sister went ahead and watched season 4 and told me some of the things that happen and all I can say is wow. As I was watching the premier of season 4 I was reminded again that Robert just really gets on my nerves sometimes. And Edna is just generally awful! I'm hoping she leaves soon. Why does Cora keep listening to Thomas?!?

Great giveaway Rissi, the BBC really knows how to do TV! You reminded me that I've been meaning to watch Call the Midwife (it looks really good) and get caught up on Being Human, looks like it's time for a marathon!

    1. ...some of the things you hope for will come true. But not before much angst, Liz. It wouldn't be Downton without the drama, right!? ;) With exception to his near indiscretion, I've always liked Robert and that surprised me because normally the aristocratic leading man is a brutish, mean sort. Not so here. Ah, yes! Cora listening to Thomas... not sure what is up with that!

Call the Midwife is lovely albeit a bit "grittier" than the majority of its costume drama counterparts. BBC always does TV right. Love that. :)

  18. Holy cow, this is the most AWESOME giveaway ever, Rissi! Thanks so much for your generosity! I absolutely adore Downton and I'm really excited to see where Mary is headed in regards to Charles and Tony. I am also intrigued by Harold's character. He was sooo sweet! It will be interesting to see how that all unfolds, especially with Madeleine, the other new character I love!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've yet to meet Harold (Christmas special, right...?) but I'm anxious to meet him. New characters are fun. I'll be on the lookout for Madeline, too! Plus, cannot wait to get that last episode in the mail. ;)

If S5 is to be the series last, I am hoping Mary makes a choice with regards to her romantic future. Knowing her, she'll probably chose someone only to then break his heart because she realizes she's not over Matthew yet. Please, Fellowes... don't go there! ;)

    2. I forgot to mention, Poppy Drayton from When Calls the Heart plays Madeleine! When I was watching DA I kept thinking, where have I seen this girl??!! Hahaha! I finally figured it out after a few hours of wracking my brain. I actually like her A LOT better in DA than in When Calls the Heart. She doesn't seem like she's trying as hard in Downton as she was in WCtH. Hope you like her too!

    3. Squee! Just saw the "Christmas" special, Renee... and YES! I thought Poppy did a lovely job with her role. (What did you think of Erin in the series as replacement for Poppy..?) I enjoyed the new characters and really the entire special as a whole (how about you?). It was so sweet and gave more insight into some unresolved issues. Plus, I've really have loved the growth of Mary this season. It's been insightful and also very realistic. :)

    4. I loved the special! I love the new characters they introduced. It's time DA got some fresh new characters that are actually likable LOL!

    5. Me, too! It was SO sweet and really, a happy-go-lucky break from all the "trauma" of the bulk of S4. And I agree... it was fabulous to meet Poppy and Paul's characters and watch as Rose continued to be up to "no good." She's quite a little rascal that one. :)
